2 In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.
John 14:2-3, ESV
You may have noticed by now that our devotionals have, for the most part, stuck to the theme of our current sermon series Summer Vacation. As we close out this first leg of our mega road trip, visiting a series of biblical locations, it feels like we’re looking back at the Garden of Eden in the rearview mirror. As a church, we are going to visit another location this Sunday, and we are welcome to go back and read about Eden any time. But we can never actually go back.
The good news it that God still works to provide for His people. Even though we messed it up and got booted from the Garden of Eden, God still draws us to Him. In John 14 we read that Jesus is going to prepare a place for us in the Father’s house and that the Holy Spirit is here to help us. There’s still a way back to God, but it’s not by heading back to Eden. When we love God and place our faith in Jesus Christ, we have the promise that He will come back and take us to the place he has prepared in His Father’s house.
